Fireballer from KIA joins Hanwha fastball unit… Not satisfied with ‘145km’
“I need more personal training.”
Right-hander Han Seung-hyeok (30), who has newly joined the fastball team of the Hanwha Eagles, is preparing for the new season with enthusiasm. On the 18th (Korean time), Han Seung-hyeok started his first live pitching at Arizona Spring Camp, USA. He threw a fastball with a maximum speed of 145km, mixed with a two-seam fastball, slider, curveball, and forkball to check his senses, but he failed to give himself a passing grade.
Han Seung-hyuk said, “I was not very satisfied with the feeling that the speed was still lacking when I rotated my body. I think I need more personal training. I’m going into actual combat mode, but I want to supplement what I personally need a little more.” expressed his feelings.
Han Seung-hyuk, who was a fastball prospect for the KIA Tigers, was traded to Hanwha after last season along with pitcher Jang Ji-soo. After wearing a KIA uniform with the 8th place in the 1st round of the 2011 rookie draft, Han Seung-hyuk received high expectations by throwing a fastball that reached up to 158 km, but remained only a promising player for more than 10 years. His professional career through his last year was 228 games, 18-24, 2 saves, 19 holds, 411⅓ innings pitched, and an earned run average of 5.84. He struck out 357 and walked 239.
The fate of a fastball pitcher was that time passed without overcoming the first pitch. When Han Seung-hyuk and KIA were both tired, Hanwha reached out and seized the opportunity to change the atmosphere.
Hanwha general manager Sohn Hyuk made one request while recruiting Han Seung Hyuk. General Manager Son said, “If people say that their pitch is not good, their pitch will not be good. The first thing is that they don’t believe in themselves. Even if there is a game where the ball is shaken during the game, if (fans) endure it once or twice, I will try to make Han Seung-hyuk’s ball as good as possible and make it a good starting resource.”
General manager Sohn is a person with a deep understanding of pitcher development. Based on his many experiences, general manager Sohn believed that even if Han Seung-hyeok’s pitching was not perfect, he had to compete with his pitching position. Han Seung-hyuk once gave up restraint to catch the ball during his KIA days, but general manager Son emphasized that he had to wait.토토사이트
Han Seung-hyeok is already in his 30s, and there are several promising fastball players in their early 20s in Hanwha. Moon Dong-joo showed off his presence once more by recording a maximum speed of 151 km from the first bullpen pitching of this camp.
Right now, simply looking at speed, it may seem that younger players are building their bodies better. However, Han Seung-hyuk has been enduring for 13 years on the rough professional stage. He needs to appeal to his competitiveness with experience and skill that will overcome the restraints of his juniors, and Hanwha expects Han Seung-hyuk to be able to do that.
Han Seung-hyuk is preparing for the season step by step to be reborn as a ‘trade fortune’ at Hanwha.
