LG ‘outclassed by eight clubs’, falls short against KIA
온라인카지노The LG Twins of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) have been swept by the KIA Tigers once again.
LG lost 3-5 at home to KIA in the 2023 KBO League at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on 1 January. This ended LG’s five-game winning streak.
Second-placed SSG also lost to Kiwoom, maintaining a 1.5-game gap, but the loss was a disappointing one for LG.
With a winning percentage of 0.630 (46 wins, 2 draws, 27 losses), LG is now firmly at the top of the standings and has a head-to-head advantage over almost every other club, raising hopes of winning the Korean Series for the first time in 29 years. The only team they are losing to is KIA.
LG is 3-5 against KIA this season. Of course, baseball is a relative game, but it’s been a bitter pill to swallow for Kia this season.
LG suffered a shock sweep in their first meeting of the season at home from 28-30 April. Prior to that, they had recorded four consecutive winning series, but their momentum was halted by KIA.
LG made up for it with a winning series in Gwangju in May, but they were still outclassed.
However, they have a chance to redeem themselves in the weekend series at home. Returning home after reclaiming the lead with two straight wins against SSG in Incheon in midweek, LG had a golden opportunity to avenge the April sweep by taking the first game of the weekend series from KIA ace Yang Hyun-jong.
In Game 1 the day before, Adam Plutko, one of the league’s strongest foreign pitchers who was riding a 10-game unbeaten streak, got the start, while KIA temporarily gave Kim Gun-gook his first start in 1479 days.
Based on the starting matchup and the atmosphere, the game was further tilted in LG’s favour. However, the undefeated pitcher fell apart.
LG took the lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring two runs off Kim, but Plutko was unable to get out of the inning and gave up five runs. In the end, LG was unable to mount a comeback and saw its five-game winning streak come to an end.
LG had hoped to sweep the series this weekend with the 1-3 starters of Kelly, Plutko, and Lim Chan-kyu, but they are now in a position where a sweep is not guaranteed.
Instead of Im Chan-kyu, who seemed to be the favourite to start on Day 2, LG will send Lee Jung-yong to the mound, who switched to the bullpen midway through the season. KIA, on the other hand, threw a super strong start by sending Sean Anderson, who pitched on the 29th, to the mound on two days’ rest. Anderson’s health is a factor, but that doesn’t mean Lee Jung-yong is a lock to be the starter just yet.
Even if LG manages to take the second game and win the series, they will still fall behind in the series against KIA this season.
