Paris Saint-Germain decide to trigger ‘buyout clause’ and plan negotiations
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly moving to sign Barcelona striker Ousmane Dembele, 26. The French giants have triggered their buyout clause, which is valid until the end of the month, and will begin negotiations in earnest.
“바카라사이트PSG have initiated contact to potentially activate Dembele’s buyout clause,” European soccer transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on social media on Monday (Aug. 28), adding, “They haven’t made any offers yet, but discussions are ongoing.”
According to Romano, Dembele’s buyout clause is valid until July 31. He was out of contract at Barcelona last summer and eventually signed a two-year extension until 2024, with a buyout clause of €50 million.
PSG were furious that Kylian Mbappe, 24, whose contract expires next June, refused to re-sign and felt “betrayed” when Real Madrid met secretly with them to agree a transfer, and eventually decided to sell this summer. The club has already excluded him from the pre-season tour, putting him under unspoken pressure.
PSG, who are looking for a replacement, are among the most interested in Dembele. In particular, new coach Luis Enrique, 53, is said to be serious about signing the player as he is highly regarded for his skills and talent.
This is not the first time PSG have sent a ‘love letter’ to Dembele. They’ve been monitoring the situation for three years now, and last year they made a move and tried to convince him to stay. The talks fell through, but this time it’s different. They need a replacement for Mbappe, and they’re willing to do it on the cheap.
However, even with a buyout, PSG would still need to reach an agreement with the player in private negotiations to finalize the deal, which is likely to be difficult as Dembele is currently in the midst of signing a new contract with Barcelona and wants to stay.
According to the French edition of the publication (Goal.com), “PSG are now ready to negotiate a €50 million buyout. However, Dembele has opened talks with Barcelona to sign a new contract until 2027 and wants to stay despite the interest.”
