Pitcher with 17 victories in the big leagues… Overcome Tommy John and go to NPB Orix

Right-handed pitcher Jarrell Cotton (31) opens his second baseball career in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).

NPB Orix Buffaloes announced on the 24th that they had signed a one-year contract with Cotton. He has number 42 on his back. The annual salary is 90 million yen (850 million won, estimated). Cotton was released as a free agent (FA) after the season, leaving a question mark on his future.  

A native of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Cotton made his big league debut in 2016. In 2017, his second season, he also attracted attention by winning 9 wins (10 losses) as a member of the Oakland Athletics. However, in March 2018, he underwent Tommy John surgery토토사이트and spent a long period of rehabilitation treatment. In May 2019, he underwent hamstring surgery.

It wasn’t until July 2021 that he hit the big league stage again. Cotton went 4-2 with 2 holds and an ERA of 3.56 in 30 games with the bullpen for the Minnesota Twins and San Francisco Giants last year. His career (four years) record in the big leagues was 17 wins, 12 losses, 5 holds, and an ERA of 4.50. In the minor leagues, he pitched in 168 games (9 years), recording 38 wins, 29 losses, 1 save, and an ERA of 3.74.  

Meanwhile, Orix also announced the signing of infielder Frank Schwindel along with Cotton. Schwindel played 75 games for the Chicago Cubs last year, hitting 0.229 with 8 homers and 36 RBIs. In 2021, he has a track record of hitting 14 home runs.
