‘Surgery → Rehabilitation → Finishing Experience’ Selected Moon Seung-won, “It was an opportunity to become stronger”

“I don’t think there is anything good yet. I’m throwing a lot just to learn a lot.”

SSG Landers right-hander Moon Seung-won (34) is concentrating on each pitch at the camp this year. He’s always serious about working out, but this year he’s more cautious. It is because he feels the biggest responsibility of his professional life.

After finishing bullpen pitching at the 2023 SSG campground in Vero Beach, Florida, USA on the 12th (Korean time), Moon Seung-won met with reporters and said, “I’m throwing a lot to get used to. He said that last year he came in in the middle and only did about 30 of his exercises. So he was a little late in finding the persimmon. So he’s trying to get his senses up quickly,” he said.

Moon Seung-won, who underwent elbow surgery in June 2021, played a comeback against the Samsung Lions on July 10 last year after about a year of rehabilitation.

Joining in the middle, he spent the rest of last year in the bullpen. In the meantime, he has been active as a starting pitcher, but the starting lineup was packed during his hiatus, and Moon Seung-won was needed in the weak bullpen.

Moon Seung-won threw a fastball over 150 km/h and also served as a finishing pitcher. But he couldn’t show off all of his old pitches. In the early days of his return, he seemed to be in good form, but in September he seemed weak.

It was two years after his return. Last year, the team achieved a ‘consolidated championship’, and this year, as we prepare for the new season with a big goal, Moon Seung-won must settle down again. During his rehabilitation, he also signed a non-FA multi-year contract (5 years and 5.5 billion won).

It means that the club and the coaching staff have confidence in Moon Seung-won. Moreover, this year, Kim Gwang-hyun is attending the World Baseball Classic (WBC). They will return before the season, but to take care of their physical condition, selection resources such as Moon Seung-won, Park Jong-hoon, and foreign pitchers need to show a sense of stability to the starting lineup from the demonstration game after the camp.

Moon Seung-won says he will only focus on what he has to do. “I just have to do what I have to do,” he said. I just need to prepare well,” he said. 스포츠토토

Last year’s bullpen experience helped him. “I think it helped a lot,” he said. Although the situation is different from the selection, it seems to have helped. When I collapsed, I think it made me stronger.”

After returning last year, Moon Seung-won played 23 games with the bullpen, recording 1 win, 1 loss, 3 saves and 3 holds, and an ERA of 5.11. This year, I am preparing again as a starter. It is expected that he, who posted 11 wins and 7 losses in 2019, will firmly protect the mound of the team aiming for the top again.
