“We will sign Kane, Tottenham must let go” bombshell from former Munich president

Former Bayern Munich honorary chairman Uli Hoeneß has dropped a bombshell.

In an article published in the UK’s ‘Cut Offside’ on the 16th (GMT), journalist Fabrizio Romano, who is well versed in European football news, explained that “Munich are optimistic about their chances of bringing Kane to the Allianz Arena. Clarity is still needed on Tottenham Hotspur’s asking price for Kane, but the Bavarians feel they have a chance to seal the deal and will attempt to make another bid.”

Florian Plettenberg of Germany’s Sky Sports also reported, “The Munich board are increasingly feeling that they have the price tag to sign Kane this summer. They expect a deal to be done in the next two to three weeks.”

Thomas Tuchel has already said that he is monitoring Kane’s situation. On the 15th, Munich held their official press conference ahead of the 2023-24 season. Kane was the main topic of interest in the first official pre-season press conference.

When asked about Kane’s transfer speculation, Tuchel said: “I will not comment on players who are not under contract with us. But we are watching the situation. If we are convinced that a player will help us, we will do everything in our power,” he said.

In the midst of all this, honorary chairman Uli Hoeneß dropped a bombshell. He visited the Tegernsee training ground on Munich’s first official day of pre-season and said: “We will sign Kane. Then Tottenham will have to let him go,” he said, exuding confidence.

“Kane has signalled in every conversation that his decision is valid. If he keeps his word, we will get him. Then Tottenham will be shaken.”
Munich are going all out to sign Kane. “Munich officials have arrived in London to meet with chairman Daniel Levy in talks over Kane’s transfer,” global outlet Eurosport reported on Thursday. Munich have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Kane this summer, but Tottenham are desperate to hold onto him. Two bids from Munich have reportedly been rejected, but Tuchel is still keen to bring Kane to Munich.”

However, the meeting is understood to have gone nowhere. Sky Sports in the UK reported on the 16th: “There has been no progress but talks have taken place. Levy met with Munich’s CEO Jan Christian Dresden on the 14th. Tottenham are keen to sign Kane but are wary that he could leave for an English Premier League (EPL) rival at the end of next season if he does not extend.

Tottenham’s priority is to re-sign him. “Kane could earn £400,000 a week if he re-signs with Tottenham instead of leaving,” the Telegraph reported on 14 April. Kane has returned to pre-season training and had his first meeting with manager Enze Postecoglou.”

“Kane approached Postecoglou with an open mind and Levy was given no hope of persuading him to sign a new contract. Kane has shown no intention of leaving this summer. Tottenham are thought to be willing to look at ways to keep him at the club beyond the end of his playing career, as well as financial compensation.”
After their first meeting, Postecoglou said he was impressed. “I’m very interested in treating everyone the same,” he said in an interview published by Football London. Kane has already cemented himself in the history of the club, he is one of the best strikers in the world and I want him to be involved,” he said.

“The dialogue with him was about how we can make the club successful. I have no doubts about what he wants. I introduced myself to Kane and gave him the vision,” he added.

It will be interesting to see if Kane can hear that vision and change his mind. Kane is one of the best strikers not only in the English Premier League (EPL) but in all of European football. He has been a mainstay since the 2014-15 season and has scored more than 20 goals in every season, most notably as a three-time top scorer.

However, there is one thing that Kane is missing. A trophy. While Kane has scored monster goals every season, his team’s results have been far from trophy-worthy. Last season, he finished second in the league with 30 goals, behind ‘goal machine’ Elling Holland, but the team finished eighth. Even with Kane’s brilliance, Tottenham failed to qualify for the UEFA competition.
With one year left on his contract, he is attracting interest from a number of clubs. Manchester United and Real Madrid were strongly linked at the start of the transfer window. Munich have since joined the race. The Bavarians have already made one official offer. On the 27th of last month, Fabrizio Romano, a journalist familiar with European football news, wrote: “Munich submitted a formal bid for Kane, which was immediately rejected by Tottenham. Munich then offered €70 million plus add-ons. Personal terms have been agreed.”

A second offer did not change Levy’s mind. The Bavarians have made a second offer worth €80m, but Levy wants at least £100m (£166m).

Meanwhile, Kane has joined the squad for Tottenham’s pre-season training ahead of the transfer speculation, and has also been named in the squad for the club’s Asia-Pacific pre-season tour. If he makes the trip to Australia, his future at Tottenham will be further clinched. However, if he doesn’t make the trip, the transfer speculation will heat up even more.
